This was one of the first works discovered after John Doman Turner’s death.

It has been confused with ‘St Valery Sur Somme’. In 1979 Baron wrote, “Both of Turner’s drawings were exhibited in 1976, but in cataloguing them, I confused the two titles. The inscription on Montivilliers had previously been obscured by an old mount.” This was mentioned in the book ‘The Camden Town Group‘ published 1979. The title ‘Montivilliers’ can be seen at the bottom of the artwork.
